Doctor Who Series 6 Episode Ranking

I truly think it is difficult to describe Series 6 of Doctor Who, but I think this episode ranking may go some way towards doing that. Some episodes are absolute bangers, others are pretty poor, and there isn't really much in the middle.
I know there is the story that this was meant to be earlier in the series, but Amy and Rory's lack of reaction to losing their baby is really jarring. They just don't give a shit, there is absolutely nothing about it. Add that to a pretty forgettable episode, that fails to deliver any real tension or scares and it is all very disappointing . The premise had potential, but it’s let down by a number of things.
A decent setup with some interesting ethical dilemmas, but it felt really rushed and a bit unfocused. I had no idea what was going on at the start, one minute they are having a chat and the next the Doctor is climbing a building in a storm. The characters are not that well developed and are all a tad unlikable if I am being honest
I don't think I will ever rank a finale as low as this again in any other series I do. I was just so underwhelmed by the way everything was wrapped up for a series that promised so much.
It was a bit of an odd finale in that we only had the one episode for it, and I will never understand that, as this was the series with the most things going on!! It is just too much crammed into one episode. The Teselecta twist felt like a bit of a cop-out, and the whole thing feels rushed rather than the epic conclusion it was trying to be. It just felt like a shame!
A chaotic and messy episode that introduces Mels in the most obvious way possible. Oh and Mels is the most grating character in the most obnoxious way possible. River’s transformation is fun, but the overall story is all over the place and doesn’t give its big moments the weight they deserve.
A forgettable pirate adventure that never fully commits to being either fun or scary. The resolution feels rushed, and the siren’s reveal is underwhelming.
This one is only higher because of the twist at the end. The rest of the episode was very much like the first part, rushed and a bit confusing. On a side note, Matt Smith is in top form throughout the series and keeps all of these episodes watchable.
A fun and light hearted episode with great chemistry between the Doctor and Craig, but the Cybermen are completely wasted, and what the hell is this episode doing as the penultimate one in the series? It’s enjoyable, but doesn’t feel like it should be the episode that leads us into the finale that should of given us a lot of answers. Ultimately, the finale didn't do that, so maybe this was well placed in the series after all.
A good concept with a fantastic performance from Arthur Darvill, but it’s a bit overrated. Don't hate me for saying that! The emotional parts don’t land as well as they should, mainly because I don't fully buy into Amy and Rory's relationship. That isn't the fault of Karen and Arthur by the way - I think they are both amazing actors and both seem like genuine, funny, amazing people.
An eerie and atmospheric episode with a great setting, but it treads familiar ground. The emotional ending is solid, but it feels way too similar to The Curse of the Black Spot in how it plays out. That may be fine in a show as old as Doctor Who, but not in the same series.
A strong mid-season finale (something I found thrilling to have at the time) with great action and some brilliant moments for Rory, Amy and the Doctor. However, the mystery of Melody Pond being River Song was way too obvious, making the reveal feel underwhelming (and that is an understatement).
One of the best Doctor Who Christmas specials, blending time travel with a festive, emotional story. Michael Gambon is excellent, and the use of Abigail’s song is a beautiful touch. A Christmas cracker!
A stunning opener that sets up the series with incredible tension and mystery. The Silence are terrifying, the American setting is gorgeous, and the Doctor’s apparent death is a bold way to start the season. I was so pumped when this first aired.
Ignore the writer, this is still a superb episode. Everything about it screams a love for a show that should be loved by all. Matt Smith shines as always, and Suranne Jones was brilliant as Idris/The Tardis. Auntie and Uncle were great characters also. I also loved the side story with a slice of horror going on for Amy and Rory in the depths of the TARDIS.
The ending is chefs kiss!!
I will not let my enjoyment of this absolute banger be ruined by what panned out for the rest of the series. This was truly brilliant. I loved how scary it was, I loved how all the mysteries came at us, I loved how the Doctor defeated the Silence in a clever and completely bad ass way. I loved Matt Smith putting in a top performance, I loved the Doctor and River flirting, I loved Canton, I just loved everything. I cannot put into words how fucking excited I was after this aired.
An absolute masterpiece of tension, atmosphere, and sci-fi intrigue. The Silence are at their most terrifying, the cinematography is breathtakingly good, and the entire episode feels like peak Doctor Who.
