Social Media and Doctor Who

I am currently looking at setting up various social media accounts for my normal job and for this website, and good grief, it is a cesspit out there isn't it, even for good old Doctor Who.
Doctor Who Social Media is a Cesspit
My passions lead me to various crevices of social media, but literally nothing is sacred from the culture wars anymore! It is painful at times, when all you want to do is see how excited people are about a new trailer that has just dropped or how amazing everyone thought the latest episode was, but alas, sometimes I really wish I just didn't look!!!!!
As you all know, Ncuti is the Doctor now, and I for one find that tremendously exciting. To be brutally honest, what isn't exciting about a hugely talented actor taking control of the TARDIS? He's cool, he's good looking, quite frankly, I'm jealous! Ncuti was amazing in Sex Education, and Eric really was the star of the show. I was rooting for Adam and Eric over any of the other relationships.

The Dark Side of Fandom
Trawl through social media though and the magic and joy of Ncuti's casting is pissed all over by some backward forces. It seems certain people, who claim to be fans of the show, want Doctor Who to fail, and why is that? Because Ncuti is black? Because he wore a dress (it was a kilt people!!)? Because Rose Noble asked an alien its pronouns? Is that really a reason to hammer this wonderful inclusive show?!
I was all over social media in the run up to the 60th anniversary, but it sucked the joy out of it for me. So I kept away from it in the run up to The Church on Ruby Road, bar watching The Goblin Song on repeat for a week or two, and my experience of the episode was all the more richer for it.
Never Be Cruel, Never Be Cowardly
I don't claim to be some SJW, all I am is a fan of a silly little British show which has two hearts and a lot more besides it. Why do people feel the need to ruin it for others? I wasn't a huge fan of Series 11, did I scream on social media about how rubbish women are? God no, I have better things to be doing. Did I struggle to watch that series all the way through? Yes, a bit. Did I then really love parts of Series 12 and all of Flux? Hell yeah I did!!
Parts of the show don't click for me, that doesn't mean there is a vendetta against me for being straight and white!! This seems to be what most people seem to think who spew bile on to various social media sites. If you've got nothing nice to say, why bother saying it?!
Anyway, I just wanted to address this issue first before buckling down for some reviews. I am not even sure what my point is about it all, but maybe it can be summed up by a Doctor, and I think Twelve had it right, apart from the pears, pears are good, much like bananas...
"Never be cruel, never be cowardly. And never ever eat pears! Remember, hate is always foolish and love is always wise. Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind..."
Good luck Ncuti!!!
